Well I am half way through reading "Bringing up Girls" by Dr. James Dobson, and these are a few of my thoughts, and what I am taking from the book, so far. I have found the book helpful for girls, of course, but there is so much that applies to boys as well.
1. The small things matter. We will never know how all the small little phrases, little looks, words, prayers or actions that may stick with our kids for a lifetime.
2. Boy or Girl, Let your kids know how much they matter to you. Say it and show it through your actions and choices.
3. Every chance you get, talk to your kids. Do the special things. Take the walks. Go out to breakfast. Play a game.
4. Never make fun of your kids. Never put them down. Hurtful words will be remembered forever.
5. Talk about the hard stuff, the uncomfortable stuff, the awkward stuff.
6. Use common sense. Trust your gut. Be involved. Be present. Be there!
